The District has many options for schools, non-profit groups, and other
educational organizations. We will taper a presentation to suit curriculum
or will bring one that we have ready. The District also supports and
participates in contests such as poster contests, essay contests and the
national Envirothon. Other educational opportunities include supplying
teachers with conservation education materials or participating in trade
shows with an educational focus. Call us and let us know how we can help.
Envirothon
Next competition: Area and State - November 2011; National -
August 2012
The Envirothon is a multi-level competition for high
school age students beginning with the area level, followed by state and
then national. Area and state level competitions typically take place in
November of each year with the national competition the following summer.
To expose students to diverse environmental issues,
ecosystems, and topography the national Canon Envirothon is hosted in a
different location each year. Teams from participating states and Canadian
provinces, who have won their state or provincial event, compete for
recognition and scholarships by demonstrating their knowledge of
environmental science and natural resource management. The teams, each
consisting of five members, work to demonstrate their knowledge of
environmental science and natural resource management at five
training/testing stations. The next national Envirothon competition will be
held in New Brunswick, Canada in July of 2011. For more information go to

Youth Conservation Workshop
Next Workshop: June 25 - July 1, 2011, Camp Clearfork Campgrounds
outside of Hot Springs near Mt. Ida
The Youth Conservation Workshop is a week long adventure in
conservation geared for students grades nine through twelve. The goal of the
workshop is to bring kids closer to nature through education - specifically
how to coexist with it and even ways to manage it. Students mix with others
with similar interests to learn together. Activities include nature hikes,
edible plants, canoe trips, land use games, scavenger hunts, chainsaw
safety, archery, and hands-on sessions on various plants and animals.
The workshop is hosted by Arkansas Association of
Conservation Districts and is an educational partnership with county
conservation districts, Arkansas Forestry Commission, Cooperative Extension
Service, Resource Conservation & Development, Arkansas Farm Bureau, Arkansas
Game and Fish Commission and USDA Natural Resource Conservation Service.
